Strandeiland in Amsterdam is shaping up to be a dynamic and sustainable urban district where living, working, learning, and recreation come together. Designed with a focus on social sustainability, circularity, and biobased construction, the new neighborhood known as M³ will offer space for families of all shapes and sizes in a thoughtfully landscaped setting.
As part of this forward-looking development, eight modular buildings are being constructed in collaboration with housing partners. One of these buildings will include a community space, encouraging social connection and neighborhood engagement.
The homes are built using a modular, factory-based construction method, meaning they arrive on-site nearly ready-made. This approach drastically shortens construction time, minimizes disruption to the surrounding environment, and supports the project’s sustainability goals.
At Plug and BIM, we contributed by designing and engineering the complete 3D electrical installations for the modular homes using our pluggable system. Our approach perfectly complements the modular construction process, delivering speed, precision, and quality while reducing on-site labor and complexity. By integrating our plug-and-play technology, we supported not only efficient project delivery but also the broader goal of building sustainable, people-centered communities.
